Disjointed, fragmented.

My Art

'You do not see the whole picture until that moment where everything aligns - suddenly, it clicks.

What you didn't realise you were looking so hard to find is there.  In this inbetween, this moment of searching, analysing, this piqued curiosity - what is there?

In this liminal, between understanding of the familiar everyday setting, the unseen, unnoticed within spaces, places and moments, is where my work lies.

Dabbling in writing creatively, capturing a moment, atmosphere or emotion through painting, minatures, video works and performances.  The multi-disciplinary nature of my practice allows for a varied visual expression of ideas, thoughts and perspectives, which aims to shift the viewers perception and understanding of the familiar everyday setting.'

First Impressions

Charcoal Sketches

Charcoal sketches developed as part of Selena's creative process, to document her first impressions of a space, a quick capture of focal points, interesting aspects and unseen and unnoticed moments.

Atmospheric impressions of spaces

Her paintings capture moments during the everyday, something you maybe wouldn't have noticed otherwise, drawn to attention and encapsulated. The colours are bright, sharp, and draw out an atmosphere or mood to a piece. When her paintings are paired with her miniatures, Selena's paintings provide a lens to view the miniature through - a framing, which allows you to see what you wouldn't have otherwise.

Miniatures

Miniatures developed as a way for Selena to investigate an experience, memory or moment, through objects or spaces, using a distant perspective of spaces you are normally enveloped within.

These distances can provide clarity, or a shift in view, allowing you to see the experience for what it is, reminiscing with a new perspective.

Her miniatures are often minimal and monotone, encouraging this feeling of distance, or that something is not quite right. In this moment of discomfort, and the unfamiliar within the familiar, is where her work lies.
